Preschool Schedule Example

*Please note, this is an example and can be modified and individualized for your child and situation. This is meant as a starting point.

8:30am-9am - Morning Arrival

  • Set up two or three activities "centers" & child can choose which to explore

  • Morning Arrival includes washing hands before exploring classroom materials 

9am-9:30am - Morning Meeting

  • Choose the same spot in your home for daily meetings.

  • Morning meeting is a time when you can read a book/ sing a song/ stretch, check the weather, go through the schedule for the day and describe the activity choices for Morning Exploration and Play.

  • Children can move between the activities in any order, going back and forth between them, however the exploration unfolds! 

9:30am-10:30am - Morning Exploration & Play 

  • Young children's work is to explore and learn through play.

  • Set up 2-3 activities for children to explore in this time.

  • Try to choose activities that focus on different Domains of Development in order to foster well rounded learning experiences. See the "Activity Ideas" tab for activity ideas across domains. 

10:30am-10:45 Snack Time

  • Wash hands first 

10:45-12pm - Outside Time

  • Outside play when possible.

  • When outside play is not possible provide opportunities for children to use their large "gross" motor skills (i.e.- jumping jacks, dancing, yoga) 

12pm-12:30pm - Lunchtime

  • Wash hands first 

12:30pm-2pm - Rest/ Quiet Time

  • Children can either nap or look at books/ draw quietly.

  • Calm quiet instrumental music without words can support relaxation. 

  • You can remind children "it's time to rest your body"  

  • During this time adults can set up 2-3 new activities for the afternoon.

  • Setting a consistent daily time for Rest/Quiet will allow you to schedule any calls/ online meetings/etc.

2pm-2:30pm - Afternoon Meeting

Reconvene for meeting. You can read another book/ sing another song/ have a conversation that may come up after the book, song or discuss the day. Children can cross off what's been done so far on the schedule. Describe the new activity choices before moving into Play and Exploration

2:30pm-3:30pm - Afternoon Play and Exploration

  • Young children's work is to explore and learn through play.

  • Set up 2-3 activities for children to explore in this time.

  • Try to choose activities that focus on different Domains of Development in order to foster well rounded learning experiences. See the Activity Ideas tab for activity ideas across domains. 

  • If you notice that children are still working on something or in the middle of one of the activities started in the morning, you can keep that activity out to return to. Otherwise, provide new activities. 

 3:30pm-3:45pm - Snack Time

  • Wash hands first 

3:45-4:45 - Outside Time

  • Outside play when possible. When outside play is not possible provide 
    opportunities for children to use their large motor skills (i.e.- jumping jacks, dancing, yoga) 

4:45pm-5pm - Closing Meeting
 

  • Closing meeting is a time to say "goodbye" to the school day and move into your regular evening routine. A goodbye song can help children transition smoothly into their evening.
